Re: Beethoven - Natural Wonders (in response to Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, “Pastoral")

The Belgian National Orchestra and the young piano prodigy Kit Armstrong join forces to pay homage to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a key work in the genre’s development, in which the soloist and the orchestra are equally important to the composer. Also on the programme, several works inspired by the environment: the colourful plumage of the French composer Olivier Messiaen’s birds, the large waves which for Ravel were so evocative of the calm and the agitation of the elements in Une barque sur l’océan, and finally Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5, an orchestral celebration of the composer’s boundless admiration for nature.
