SISTERS IN CONCERT

Like Wolfgang, his sister Maria Anna Mozart was a musical child prodigy. Their father Leopold took them everywhere to showcase their talent. Nannerl, as she was called by the family, received much praise everywhere she performed for her work on the harpsichord and the pianoforte. Wolfgang was his older sister’s biggest fan, composing a piano concerto for two to perform with her. Unfortunately they never did perform it in public. Leopold felt she had to get married once she became a young adult, as befitted a girl of her age.
Three hundred years later, two sisters, Katia and Marielle Labèque, will perform this piano concerto at BOZAR. Fortunately they did not have to stop performing at the age of eighteen so we can continue to enjoy their exceptional talent. Unlike Wolfgang and Nannerl, who grew further and further apart as time went by, the two sisters are inseparable both on and off the stage. They always perform together and have their own record label. Their unique relationship is reflected in the sublime sound they create together.
