With Every Breath I Take

Cécile McLorin Salvant moves with striking freedom between musical universes that are rarely brought together. She revives forgotten songs, tells stories filled with vivid characters, and sings in four languages: English, French, Occitan and Haitian Creole. Jessye Norman described her as “a unique voice, driven by intelligence and complete musicianship.” The New York Times placed her alongside Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. A three-time Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album, she was also awarded the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship in 2020, often referred to as the “genius grant.” Tonight, she reimagines this timeless repertoire in new orchestral arrangements alongside the BNO.
