With Elif Shafak in the Sultan's world

BOZAR LITERATURE asked the well-known author Elif Shafak to select a few works from the exhibition in the Centre for Fine Arts The Sultan’s World. Shafak commented on eight works for the literary visitor guide and audio guide. She makes us look at and reflect upon the works on display, the other and ourselves in a different way.

The choice of Elif Shafak went without saying. She is one of the most erudite and engaged literary personalities, both in Europe and in Turkey. Shafak writes in English and Turkish and literally has her feet in two worlds. Her latest novel is at the very heart of this exhibition. The book is set in sixteenth century Istanbul, during the heyday of the Ottoman Empire. Shafak will also be at BOZAR for an exclusive encounter on 28 May 2015. On that occasion she will be talking with Tine Danckaers, journalist at MO*.
