Album Release : That Wasn’t A Dream

What happens if two revered session musicians swap the studio for the stage? Blake Mills and Pino Palladino gave an answer as clear as daylight back in 2021, in the form of Notes With Attachments, a tightly rendered album that rubbed shoulders with Americana, new-jazz and West African music. When he wasn’t working on his four solo albums, the producer, guitarist and songwriter Blake Mills has lent his expertise to Bob Dylan, Fiona Apple and Laura Marling in recent years. Pino Palladino has been perfecting his bass technique since the 1970s: a one-in-a-thousand sound, often on a fretless bass guitar. He has contributed to albums by D’Angelo, The Who, Eric Clapton and others. For a long time, it was unclear whether these two giants would release anything else together, but the long-awaited follow-up, That Wasn’t A Dream, is finally heading our way in August 2025. The saxophonist Sam Gendel is back on the team, making his presence felt in this ad hoc quartet on several occasions, especially with the harmonic effects he conjures from his instrument.
