Alvis Hermanis / The New Riga Theatre

Sonja lives in an apartment in Leningrad with an interior from the 1940s. We meet her as a lonely woman. One day, she receives a love letter - which changes her life considerably. The story was written by the Russian writer Tatiana Tolstaya, a member of the famous Tolstoy family; it is rooted in the Europe of its time, but also refers to current history. To accentuate the naive Sonja's contradictory character traits, Alvis Hermanis has her role played by a male actor, Gundars Abolins, who has received numerous nominations for his performance.
