For children aged 4 and over
This colourful concert combines traditional shadow puppetry and improvised music. The artists who once graced our banknotes take the leading roles: three male painters – James ‘100 Belgian francs’ Ensor, Frans ‘10 guilders’ Hals and Eugène ‘100 French francs’ Delacroix – step off their old banknotes to find out what value they still represent today. The Mexican female artist, Frida ‘500 pesos’ Kahlo, is blissfully unaffected, since she is still in circulation.
PuPaFiTa is the visual artist Serge Onnen’s dreamy family concert exploring the iconography of our money. In this production, Serge Onnen is accompanied by the puppeteer Tim Hammer, with live improvisations by the musician Pak Yan Lau. The colourful shadow puppets are made of transparent leather, according to an Asian tradition dating back thousands of years that exists from China to Turkey. Video projections transfer the shadows to a big screen.
