On Sunday morning five brass players from the National Orchestra bring us a selection from the repertoire for their instruments. André Previn rose to fame as a classical conductor and pianist-arranger, but he is also an accomplished composer. The versatile Enrique Crespo, who is a trombonist with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, includes jazz, classical and folk music influences in his compositions. West Side Story is without doubt the best known of the compositions by Leonard Bernstein - who is primarily known as a conductor. He has taken a dance suite from his successful musical and combined major episodes from the original with symphonic adaptations of the most famous songs (Somewhere, Maria) and dances (Mambo, Cha-cha, Rumba).
