Salieri. Falstaff
You may remember Antonio Salieri from film Amadeus as the man who was accused of poisoning Mozart. That is absolutely unthinkable, as historical research has proved. In reality, Mozart and Salieri held each other in mutual respect. After this concert, his name will mainly be associated with the playful opera Falstaff, ossia Le tre burle from 1799, in which Shakespeare’s antihero chases two married women who offer a witty and intelligent retort. B’Rock, the Choeur de Chambre de Namur and an extensive cast of soloists, including the Croatian bass-baritone Krešimir Stražanac in the title role, bring colour to this musical drama full of humour, arrogance and Mozartian counterpoint. The conductor René Jacobs directs the restoration of Salieri’s honour.
