With this second film, written and shot over six years, multidisciplinary artist Patricia Allio continues what they call a “cinematic archaeology of gestures and images.” To Burn to Shine is a queer medieval tale inspired by a legend from Saint-Jean-du-Doigt, a small village in Finistère: a local child, Yves, brings back the miraculous finger of Saint John the Baptist. They travel through the centuries.
Patricia Allio is a multidisciplinary artist from Brittany and an associate artist at the Théâtre National de Bretagne. Originally trained in philosophy, she is a writer, filmmaker, performer, director, founder of the ICE gatherings, and co-director of Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers. Her work explores the body, space, freedom of movement, and queer, intergender and anti-speciesist identities as forms of resistance. She plays with and reinvents artistic formats, creating powerful and thought-provoking works both in form and content.
