‘Buñuel, a Surrealist Filmmaker - Javier Espada’

- 19:30

This film will be screened extra muros at Cinema RITCS.

Following 2 earlier films about Buñuel, Espada now explores the cross-pollination between Buñuel and Surrealism, the art movement that emerged in the 1920s with standard-bearers such as René Magritte, André Breton and Dalí. Luis Buñuel, one of the greatest precursors of surrealist cinema through works like Un chien andalou and L’Âge d’Or, began to move away from this movement but never completely abandoned it. Espada creates a full and nuanced portrait of this extraordinary international artist, whose wit, scepticism and profound respect for human frailty seems more necessary than ever today.

Javier Espada designed the contents of the permanent exhibition of the Buñuel de Calanda Center. He has created the Festival Internacional Buñuel Calanda conceived as a film tribute to Luis Buñuel in his homeland, and has directed it for 10 editions. He has curated multiple exhibitions related to Buñuel and cinema, and is a widely respected filmmaker focused on surrealism.
