With a population of 21 million, Lagos is the largest city in Nigeria and on the African continent. The megacity is one of Africa’s financial hubs but, despite its growth and the country’s vast oil reserves, life remains very difficult in Nigeria. Its people have to contend with terrorist attacks by Boko Haram and government corruption. Its local politicians promote the development of civil society.
