Handel: Giulio Cesare in Egitto

Egypt, 48 BC. Julius Caesar becomes involved in the struggle for power within the Egyptian royal house, in which Cleopatra plots to overthrow her brother Tolomeo. A complex struggle for power ensues, sparking the great love between Cleopatra and Caesar. In the end, love will triumph and Cleopatra places the Egyptian empire under Caesar's protection. In this magnum opus by Handel, the most virtuosic arias full of vocal fireworks alternate or with the most subtle Handel ever wrote. It is a real pleasure that Cecilia Bartoli surrounds herself with all the top soloists and takes on the versatile role of Cleopatra herself.
