‘Cesária Évora - Ana Sofia Fonseca’

Using archives, concerts, interviews and images of Cape Verde, the film Cesária Évora weaves an intimate portrait of the "barefoot diva". Her images, which have never been seen before, reveal the successes and difficulties that marked the career of this legendary singer, whose melancholic voice left an unforgettable mark on the musical landscape. 

Ana Sofia Fonseca has always been a storyteller. Founder of the production company Carrossel Produções, she is a professional who wears many different hats – that of a director, journalist, producer and writer – with more than 20 years’ experience in storytelling. In 2018, she released her first feature film, Setembro Avida Inteira, which became one of the most watched documentaries of the year in Portugal. 

This screening is a Belgian premiere and will be followed by a Q&A with the director and José da Silva, producer and manager of Cesária Évora, as well as the Award Ceremony of the 15th edition of the Elles Tournent - Dames Draaien Festival​​​​​​​.
