Checkpoint Brussels: a living news programme
Brussels is one of Europe’s most diverse cities, yet its many communities often live side by side without really connecting. Each has its own newspapers and seems to inhabit its own news bubble. This fragmented public sphere makes public debate more difficult and influences how Brussels, Belgium and Europe see themselves and one another.

With Checkpoint Brussels, Bozar aims to build bridges between these different worlds. This monthly live news programme brings together policymakers, artists, entrepreneurs, thinkers and engaged citizens to discuss current affairs – local, national and international – from a variety of perspectives.

Each programme makes room for personal testimonies, debates, interviews, breaking news, as well as music and art.

The topics come from all over the world, just as people from all over the world come to Brussels:

  • European integration and relations with the rest of the world

  • Belgian politics, including politics in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia

  • Experiments emerging from Brussels as a social laboratory

  • And, of course, art and culture, as well as what happens here at Bozar

For the time being, not all the conversations on stage, which will be held in English, French or Dutch, will be translated. We are curious to see how you, our audience, will respond.

Annabelle Van Nieuwenhuyse and Karl van den Broeck will moderate the discussions.
