Fancy spending an evening in Rio? Come and enjoy a relaxed Sunday to the rhythm of Choro's syncopation. This traditional genre emerged in around 1870, on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, which was the economic and cultural capital of Brazil at the time. The musicians appropriated the repertoire of European dances that were popular in the aristocratic salons, such as the waltz, the Scottish or the polka, adding a Brazilian touch with African roots. Choro was born! Today, Barbara Piperno (flute) and Marco Ruviaro (7-string classical guitar) take great pleasure in performing this instrumental musical genre, which remains one of the most important in Brazilian culture.
