‘Close-up: Lois Patiño’

On the occasion of the premiere of Lois Patiño’s latest film Samsara (2023), Bozar invites the Galician filmmaker for a Close-up. Patiño will be present during the screening in Cinema Galeries for a talk about his work, his influence and who he got influenced by. Also his earlier work (short and feature movies) will be shown.

Lois Patiño was born in Vigo (Spain) in 1983. He followed his cinema education at TAI in Madrid, NYFA in New York and completed his education with a master’s in creative documentary at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. He is part of the illustrious generation of Galician filmmakers called 'Novo Cinema Galego', along with authors such as Oliver Laxe, Diana Toucedo and Jaione Camborda.

After several short films, he made his feature length documentary debut in 2013 with Costa da Morte, followed by his debut fiction feature Lúa Vermelha (Red Moon Tide) in 2020. Samsara had its world premiere at the Berlinale 2023 and tackles subjects such as afterlife and Buddhism through immersive cinema.

The film will be followed by a conversation with the director moderated by Mariana Cadenas Sangronis. Mariana, a visual storyteller with a ‘Doc Nomads’ master's degree from LUCA School of Arts, is currently working on an animated series about migration and a VR documentary experience.
