‘DAY 1: Día Valeriano Bernal’

José Luis Dominguez, Luis de la Carrasca

The Bruselas Flamenco Festival starts off in a different location this year, and with good reason! Valeriano Bernal, who passed away last year, was a household name in the world of luthiery. The cream of flamenco guitarists were regular visitors to his workshop in Algodonales (Cádiz province). However, he also had a connection with Brussels: he lived for more than a decade in Saint-Gilles, around the corner from La Maison du Peuple on Théodore Verhaeghenstraat. Brussels played a significant role in his development as a master luthier. The exhibition pays tribute to Valeriano Bernal as well as the high standard of the Belgian luthiers. Following the opening of the exhibition, the day is brought to a close with a concert in honour of Valeriano Bernal by guitarist José Luis Dominguez and singer Luis de la Carrasca in the La Maison du Peuple concert hall in Saint-Gilles.
