Saariaho, Mendelssohn & Sibelius
The Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester is known worldwide for its artistic excellence, but also for the care taken by its musical directors in selecting its programmes. It is led by the very young conductor Tarmo Peltokoski, who will be joined by pianist Martin Helmchen. These two artists will perform Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1, a work by a 21-year-old composer! Mendelssohn dedicated his concerto to the pianist Delphine Von Schauroth and even admitted that she had composed a few bars of it... Conceived as a true declaration of love imbued with passion, the work was played regularly for nearly 40 years by its dedicatee. With the Lemminkäinen Suite, Peltokoski takes you to the legendary world of Finland, immortalised here by his compatriot Jean Sibelius.
Following a personal decision by the artist to cancel his tour with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin in March 2024, Jan Lisiecki will be replaced by Martin Helmchen. The concert programme remains unchanged.
