Tunisian musician Dhafer Youssef quickly became fascinated by the ud, a traditional Arabic string instrument. In virtuoso fashion, he mixes influences from Arabic music with diverse genres: from jazz, global and classical music, to rock and electronica. His ud playing is both technically impressive and emotionally powerful, with a masterful command of complex rhythms and an improvisational skill that makes each performance unique. With a vocal range of four octaves, he effortlessly shifts between different registers. Youssef has previously collaborated with musicians such as Zakir Hussain, Marcus Miller, and Herbie Hancock. This autumn, he will perform new work at Bozar.
