In a period of profound religiousness, the 65-year old Haydn paid homage to the Creation with this masterful work. “I have never been as devout as I was during the period when I worked on Die Schöpfung. Every day, I knelt and prayed that God would give me the power to finish this work," explained the composer. Haydn's devotion is clearly evident in the resulting oratorio, which is regarded as one of the highlights of the genre. For the first time, portrait artist VOCES8 joins forces with the Academy of Ancient Music to bring this spiritual work to life again.
