DJ Jigüe is one of the big names in contemporary hip-hop in Cuba. His first album, Metamorfosis, is available on Soundcloud. The prolific musician recently got together with other artists to launch "Guámpara Music", Cuba's first independent production company for urban music. Rooted in funk and hip-hop, his music combines traditional Afro-Cuban percussion and Caribbean rhythms with electronic production. He has succeeded in opening up a new realm of electronic experimentation by creating new sound “stories” drawing on Cuban musical heritage. His collaboration with percussionist El Menor will take you right to the heart of Cuban rhythms such as rumba and tumba francesa.
