Dounia is the story of a little girl full of joy and imagination, of her grandparents, and of thousands of migrants. When war broke out, she left Aleppo with her grandparents, carrying a few nigella seeds in her hand. Transported from lorries to boats, parked in stations or on pavements, they set off in search of a new home. Fortunately, Dounia is not alone: the Princess of Aleppo is accompanying her on her journey to a new world...

Marya Zarif, born in Aleppo, Syria, on 22 August 1982, is a Syrian-Canadian author, illustrator, screenwriter, and film-maker. She is first and foremost a poet and storyteller. This is her moving animated debut, an initiation fable that sows seeds of hope in a world in ruins
