Elena and Vladimir married each other later in life. Vladimir has a spoiled daughter from a previous marriage, Elena a good-for-nothing of a son. Vladimir is a rich but cold man. Elena is of humble origin and is a submissive wife. When Vladimir is hospitalized after a heart attack, he designates his daughter as the sole heiress to his fortune. Thus Elena sees her chance to help her son and his family get on their feet financially pass by.

 

The film Elena will be preceded by the shortfilm 'Hymns of Moscow' by Dimitri Venkov.
