‘Emine Bostancı: Dareyn Q.7’

As its name reveals, the Dareyn ensemble ('two worlds' in Ottoman Turkish) brings together two cultural worlds: the East and the West. This reunion was first embodied in a duo consisting of the Turkish kemençe virtuoso Emine Bostanci - founder of the ensemble and a musician who trained with the living legend Kudsi Ergüner - and Maya Fridman on the European cello. Dareyn arose from the two musicians' love of classical, spiritual and Sufi music. In March 2023, Dareyn transformed into a quartet: an extended version including the vibrant percussion of Vinsent Planjer and the classic-jazz confluences of pianist Franz von Chossy.
