Prometheus

Is there a more adventurous violinist than Patricia Kopatchinskaja? In her new performance concept, she examines the myth of Prometheus and explores themes such as rebellion, enlightenment and the quest for knowledge. A striking lighting design stokes the fire – a symbol of power and knowledge. Beethoven’s Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus [The Creatures of Prometheus] opens the evening, after which Kopatchinskaja’s interventions, Le Chaos by Jean-Féry Rebel and Schönberg’s satirical Ode to Napoleon literally break open his Symphony No. 3 Eroica. Drawing an analogy with the people who received fire from Prometheus, the performance poses the question: “What do we do with this power? And how do we avoid self-destruction?” Kopatchinskaja and Ensemble Resonanz have as many questions as they do answers.
