‘Expo : Rocío Aballí Hernández, vidéaste’

Rocío Aballí Hernández is a photography and image-editing graduate from the Havana Instituto Superior de Arte. Her short film ‘Cada Lunes Y cada Lluvia’ (Every Monday and Every Rain) will be played here on a loop. The work shows the setbacks of a woman in her kitchen with humour, poetry and movement. Making you think fleetingly of a Perec story without a plot, the formal treatment of the image elevates the multifaceted relationship between the woman and her environment. ‘Cada Lunes Y cada Lluvia’ pays homage to contemporary animation (drawing on a number of technical processes), the viewer’s imagination and the inventiveness of Cuban women, who have to be very creative to produce new meals every day for themselves and their families.
