On Falling - Laura Carreira

Portuguese immigrant Aurora works as a warehouse picker in a vast fulfilment centre in Scotland. Trapped between the confines of her workplace and her flatshare, Aurora seeks to resist the loneliness, alienation and ensuing small talk which begin to threaten her sense of self. Set against a landscape dominated by an algorithm-driven gig economy designed to keep us apart, On Falling explores the vital struggle to find meaning and connection.

Director Laura Carreira's debut feature film, produced by Ken Loach's producers, won the Silver Shell for Best Director at the San Sebastian Film Festival. ​​​​​​​

Laura Carreira is a Portuguese filmmaker based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her short films, Red Hill and The Shift, have been selected for numerous international festivals, winning several awards. Laura Carreira is a promising figure in contemporary European cinema. In 2022, the director was named one of the Rising Stars Scotland by Screen International magazine. On Falling is her first feature film.
