‘Hanne De Backer: Carte blanche’

21 Sept.'23
- 20:30

Bozar gives carte blanche to a gem of the Belgian avant-garde and free jazz scene: the Belgian clarinetist and saxophonist Hanne De Backer. Whether solo or in various formations, the musician breathes life into organic, lively and vibrant sounds. At Bozar, she shares the stage with musicians who, like her, love to explore textures and give free rein to their boundless inspiration. The Polish pianist Marta Warelis and the Austrian bassist Beate Wiesinger are both as one with their instrument, the former sometime playing directly on the piano’s strings without the need for its keys. They are joined by high-flying American drummer Hamid Drake, who has collaborated with Don Cherry, Herbie Hancock, Pharoah Sanders and Archie Shepp, among other big names.
