On the outskirts of Barcelona, Vallbona is an enclave bordered by a river, railway tracks, and a highway. Antonio, the son of Catalan workers, has been growing flowers here for nearly 90 years. He’s been joined by Makome, Norma, Tatiana, coming from everywhere… To the rhythm of music, forbidden swims, and budding romances, a poetic form of resistance emerges against the urban, social, and identity conflicts of the world.
José Luis Guerin made his debut in 1983 with Los motivos de Berta, screened in the Forum section at Berlin. He later went on to focus on non-fiction with Innisfree (Zabaltegi, 1990), which participated in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, Tren de sombras (Train of Shadows, 1997), premiered at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes, and En construcción (Work in Progress, 2000), Special Jury and FIPRESCI prizes in San Sebastián, and Goya for Best Documentary. He returned to fiction with En la ciudad de Sylvia (2007), premiered in competition at Venice, showing the non-fiction Guest (Zabaltegi-Specials, 2010) in its Orizzonti section. In 2011 he co-directed Correspondencia Jonas Mekas – J.L. Guerin, followed by La academia de las musas (The Academy of Muses, 2016).
This film screening is brought to you in the context of the Festival of the New European Bauhaus 2026.
