I Only Rest in the Storm - Pedro Pinho

Filmdirector Pedro Pinho will join us for an introduction and a talk on January 15.
Sergio, an environmental engineer from Portugal, travels to Guinea-Bissau to conduct an impact report on an infrastructure project. He struggles to find his place amongst the expatriate community as the “wounds” of neo-colonialism become more and more apparent. At the same time he becomes entangled in an intimate yet unbalanced relationship with two inhabitants of the city, Diara and Gui.

A playful but incisive portrayal of the contemporary post colonialist liberal mindset, with a stellar performance by Cleo Diára that won her the prize for Best Actress in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Portugues filmmaker Pedro Pinho has been making films since the early 2000's with his first documentary, Bab Sebta, making its debut at FID Marseille, 2008, followed by As Cidades e as Trocas (Trading Cities) at FID Marseille in 2014. A Fábrica de Nada (The Nothing Factory), was his first feature-length fiction film that premiered at the Cannes Festival Directors’ Fortnight where he won the FIPRESCI International Critics award. Since then, A Fábrica de Nada has received around 20 awards at festivals all over the world.
