Immanuel Wilkins' Blues Blood

Immanuel Wilkins’ debut album Omega (2020) immediately raked in the superlatives: The New York Times voted it album of the year, and Jazz Times called it the most important jazz debut in years. Now onto his third studio album, Blues Blood (2024), the saxophonist and composer more than fulfils expectations. This is his most ambitious record to date, a meditation on the legacy of our ancestors and the bonds between us. With an important role for the voice (including Cécile McLorin Salvant) it is also his most restrained album. The intimate opener MATTE GLAZE, with its poignant vocals, immediately sets the tone for a masterclass in contemporary jazz. “Music has alchemical properties.”, Wilkins claims. Come, listen, and undergo a transformation of your own.
