The Island that wasn’t – Pauline Julier

Throughout this second evening, Pauline Julier invites the audience to discover the direction of her research and the creative process behind a new work, developed from a reflection on the notion of the “living” and her dialogue with the scientific community. 
The screening of her filmed theatre piece A Million-Year Picnic (45’) opens the event. In this medium-length film, three specialists of the cosmos are invited to a picnic on Mars: Didier Queloz, Nobel Prize laureate in 2019 for the discovery of exoplanets; Camille Bonvin, Geneva-based cosmologist; and Violaine Sautter, planetary geologist involved in the Curiosity and Perseverance missions. The screening is followed by a conversation moderated by curator and writer Filipa Ramos, bringing together Pauline Julier and Faustine Cantalloube around the themes that run through the work: scientific language, the sounds of the “living”, the relationship between film as a medium and scientific research, the exploration of the extraterrestrial, and the very definition of life.

This evening will also offer Pauline Julier the opportunity to present the development of her new project, The Island that Wasn’t, created during her Art & Science Studiotopia residency since 2024.
