Latvian organist Iveta Apkalna is one of the most sought-after and exciting organists in the world. Since she was appointed the titular organist of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg in 2017, you cannot ignore her in the organ landscape. She always tries to create a dialogue between old and new in her recitals. A few years ago, she impressed audiences with her recitals between Bach’s counterpoint and Glass’s minimal music; now, she encircles some of Bach’s masterpieces with contemporary works by her compatriot Pēteris Vasks, whose Hymnus was dedicated to Apkalna.
