As part of our Close-up: Dogma 95, Bozar invites you to discover The King is Alive, a film by Danish director Kristian Levring. True to the principles of Dogma 95, this work embodies a raw cinema without artifice, faithful to the revolutionary spirit of the movement, which we are celebrating this year on the occasion of the manifesto’s 30th anniversary.
After their bus breaks down in the Namibian desert, a group of tourists find themselves isolated, living on tinned food and dew. Faced with growing despair, Henry, a director, decides to stage King Lear. While rehearsing this tragedy, the boundaries between reality and fiction are blurred, revealing unexpected tensions and drama.
Selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2000, The King is Alive bears witness to Levring’s collaboration with the Dogma 95 movement.
