It is always a real pleasure to welcome the Concertgebouw Orchestra. It is still among the best - if not the best - orchestra in the world. The Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä guides the prestigious orchestra through Eine Alpensinfonie. With a vast orchestra, featuring twelve horns and an impressive percussion section, Strauss evokes the overwhelming impressions of the mountain range. For Strauss's final symphonic poem, audience favourite Sol Gabetta will solo in Schelomo by Ernest Bloch. In this rarely performed score from Bloch's so-called Jewish Cycle, the cello gives voice to King Solomon.
