Kontinental '25 - Radu Jude

Radu Jude continues his streak of comical and poignant socio-political satires with a devastating tale of a woman's crisis of conscience. In the city of Cluj, in Romania’s Transylvania region, a bailiff named Orsolya evicts the homeless Ion from an unused cellar to make way for the construction of the Kontinental boutique hotel — a decision that sends her on a profound guilt trip. Shot on an iPhone over just 11 days, and all the more incisive for its minimalism, Jude dissects the urgent themes preoccupying his country and Europe at large.

Winner of the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at this year’s Berlinale, Radu Jude (born 1977) is part of the second generation of filmmakers defining the New Romanian Cinema. Uncompromising in his exploration of film language and the representation of history, he has directed over thirty short and feature-length works in just 15 years, earning awards at all major international festivals.
