Mayer, Mendelssohn & Tchaikovsky
We met her for the first time in 2024, and now the conductor Joana Mallwitz is back on stage at Bozar, this time with her ‘very own’ Konzerthausorchester Berlin. Emilie Mayer, sometimes nicknamed the ‘female Beethoven’, was not just an accomplished composer: she was also a sculptor and the co-director of the Berlin Opera. She devoted her life to music, writing no fewer than eight symphonies and seven remarkable overtures. This flood of Romantic music concludes with Mendelssohn’s highly acclaimed Violin Concerto, in which the Korean violinist Kim Bomsori, a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2015, shares her angelic sound. Finally, you will hear one of the most beautiful moments of Tchaikovsky’s career: the horn solo in the slow movement of his Fifth Symphony.
