VUB-CROSSTALKS

‘Kris Verdonck – Lawrence Malstaf’

17 Oct.'20

BOZAR OPEN AIR

During BOZAR OPEN AIR, two Belgian artists will give performances inspired by confinement in a limited space, a reality familiar to everyone since lockdown.

STILLS IV and V are projection installations by Kris Verdonck showing tattooed bodies. Their tattoos fuse with the graffiti on the walls and their bodies depict the state of the city. The imprisoned figures seek their place in a neoliberal system, in the friction between an infrastructure and the people who live in it.

Shrink01995 is an installation by Lawrence Malstaf consisting of two transparent plastic plates and a device that gradually sucks out the air between them. As such, the body is almost vacuum packed. The imprisoned person slowly changes position and evolves from an almost embryonic position to a structure reminiscent of a crucified body.
