Exile
Born in Thessaloniki, Kyriakos Kalaitzidis is not only a master oud player, but he also knows Mediterranean music like no one else. With his ensemble En Chordais, he brings together different musical traditions from Greece and its surrounding regions and mixes East and West. With an instrumental combination that includes oud, qanûn, piano and percussion, and, of course, vocals, the ensemble mines eight centuries of music in a sublime and surprising way. Kalaitzidis and his musicians descend on Bozar with a programme on exile. This theme is close to Kalaitzidis' heart, as he himself was born into a family of exiles. Let yourself be carried away by the richness of the timbres and the exceptional musical feeling with which Kalaitzidis and En Chordais make this universal theme audible. And let's not forget a special guest, singer and activist María Farantoúri, renowned for her interpretations of Míkis Theodorákis songs, who will help make this an unforgettable evening.
