La Maternal - Pilar Palomero

10 Jan.'26

At 14, Carla skips school to ride bikes with her friend Efraín — until she finds herself pregnant. Sent to a home for young pregnant girls, she discovers an unexpected sense of solidarity. A raw and honest portrait of growing up too fast, in a society that increasingly shirks its responsibilities.

Filmmaker and screenwriter Pilar Palomero has emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Spanish cinema. Trained in cinematography, she directed her first short, Noć, in 2015. Her debut feature, Las Niñas (2021), was a breakthrough, winning four Goya Awards. Los Destellos (2024) is her most recent work.

This screening is part of Close-Up: Pilar Palomero, presented in the context of EUROPALIA ESPAÑA.
