Beethoven Ouverture

‘Music is a revelation superior to all wisdom and philosophy,’ wrote Beethoven. This revelation and the idea of discovery are at the heart of this festive concert programme that opens the new La Monnaie season and is a prelude to several of the season’s major themes. Beethoven’s Coriolanus Overture is a heady aperitif to precede this season’s complete Beethoven symphonies. Bruch’s Concerto for two pianos reflects our continuing wish to highlight less familiar – but no less worthwhile – music in our concert series. And Pictures at an Exhibition by Musorgsky / Ravel is a clear reference to the Russian strand towards the end of our opera season. But it is above all an orchestral treat, in which our Music Director, Alain Altinoglu, will once again lead the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra alongside the piano duo of Katia and Marielle Labèque.
