From Meragi to Kantemir - Early Ottoman music

Perfectly complementing the exhibition THE SULTAN'S WORLD, the music played by the Lâmekân Ensemble is one of the great treasures of the Ottoman heritage. A group of virtuoso musicians led by the musicologist and lutenist Tristan Driessens, they released their first album, Music of the Ottoman Court, last October. They now present a new programme that reveals all the splendour of the classical repertoire from Asia Minor. Joined by Murat Aydemir and Burcu Karadag, great masters of Ottoman classical music, and performing on a variety of traditional instruments, the Lâmekân Ensemble takes you on a journey back in time to a flourishing period, lasting from the 15th to the 17th century, that was dominated by great artistic figures such as Dimitrie Cantemir, Ali Ufki, Abd al-Qadir Maraghi, and Nefiri Behram.
