Chopin & Shostakovich
Dmitri Shostakovich completed his Tenth Symphony in 1953 after Stalin's death. The work steadily grew to become one of his most famous symphonies and is a striking indictment of the dark years under the dictator. Like no other, Shostakovich gives shape to the tragedy and terror, concluding with a triumphant finale in which the individual prevails. Renowned conductor Antonio Pappano leads the London Symphony Orchestra through this masterful work, but they begin with Rossini's exuberant and festive overture to Semiramide. The rising star Seong-Jin Cho contributes pure lyricism in Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto.
