‘Love is not an Orange - Otilia Babara’

3 Apr.'23
- 19:00

In the early nineties, women left Moldova in large numbers to provide for their families. Unable to return home, they found a peculiar way to stay in touch: sending boxes filled with gifts you could only dream about at the time. In return, their children would send videotapes. Through these intimate private archives, Otilia Babara depicts the fragility of family bonds between mothers and daughters who were forced to live apart in order to survive.

Otilia Babara is a documentary filmmaker from Moldova currently based in Brussels. She participated in the DocNomads Master Program and is a 2013 Berlinale Talents fellow. Fascinated by untold stories of women, she directed and produced the short films Irene (2015), Blossom (2014) and Women on Canvas (2009). Her films expose big wounds hidden in small details.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with the director Otilia Babara.
