After recovering from tuberculosis, Mariam has a recurring nightmare about being kept high up in the mountains, in an old palace a group of outcasts call home. In becoming friends with the tuberculosis patients of Abastumani and in sharing joy and pain with them, Mariam finally overcomes her fear. But Abastumani shares a forgotten story that was never told, the ghosts of the past reveal something much more sinister than Mariam’s personal nightmare, they expose the nightmare of a whole country.

Mariam Chachia is a documentary film director and producer from Georgia. She started her film career in 2007 making short TV series for kids. In 2016 Mariam made her first feature documentary film Listen to the Silence, which premiered in DOK Leipzig 2016 and won The Golden Dove in Next Masters Competition. Apart from producing and directing, Mariam has been working as a tutor for documentary filmmakers for the last 7 years. In 2022, Mariam and her colleagues founded DOCA - Documentary Association Georgia, which aspires to contribute to the growth of a sustainable and healthy documentary film industry in her home country.

Nik Voigt is a cinematographer, director and editor. He worked in a range of films and media fields before turning to documentary in 2016. Although Nik has experience directing short films, Magic Mountain is his debut feature documentary as a director.
