Africa-Europe Week

European Union (EU) and African Union (AU) leaders will meet in Brussels for the 6th EU-AU Summit on 17 and 18 February 2022. In its run-up, the 1st edition of the Africa-Europe Week brings youth, civil society and the private sector together to discuss aspects of the Africa-EU Partnership that matter to them the most.

Culture is paramount to this Partnership. To reflect it, the Africa-Europe Week will close with the concert of MAISHA, a unique Afro-European musical collective that unites 12 talented and acknowledged artists from both continents.

MAISHA - an Afro-European Music Experiment

with special guest Youssou N'Dour

Kora, Alto Sax, Masinqo, Accordion, Percussions, Double-Bass, Soprano Sax, Guitar, Electric Bass, Mbira, Piano, Drums: MAISHA ('life' in Swahili) blends traditional and modern instruments from Europe and Africa to deliver a unique fusion of crossover jazz, instrumental hip-hop and world beat.

This Afro-European music collective of 12 musicians, full of spontaneity and talent, was created in 2019 in Addis-Ababa. In 12 days, complete strangers with different backgrounds and instruments became musical partners unified by the common language of music. MAISHA embodies the "people to people" dimension of the EU-African Union partnership, reaching well beyond institutional circles.

In the framework of the Europe-Africa Week and the 6th EU-AU Summit taking place in Brussels, MAISHA reunites again to perform at BOZAR on 17 February. They will be joined by a very special guest: Mr Youssou N'Dour, world-known singer, longtime advocate for cultural dialogue and bold experiments.
