This masterful work gives musical form to each month of the year through a remarkable range of styles, from barcarolle and capriccio to Lied. Chorale quotations such as Christ ist erstanden and Vom Himmel hoch also appear throughout the cycle. More than a poetic depiction of the seasons, Das Jahr offers a journey into the depths of human experience through a unique emotional palette.
