COLOMBIA

Colombian diva Gomez mixes a wide range of Colombian cumbia and bambuco, Argentine zamba, Cuban Son and Peruvian Lando, elegantly distilling it down to a set of spare melodies and subtle rhythms… Her music is as strong as her voice.”
The Village Voice

Alumna of the famous Berklee College of Music, the Colombian singer Marta Gomez and her band perform her own compositions, incorporating smooth Latin American rhythms, Caribbean exuberance, Andean nostalgia, as well as hints of jazz and pop. Her song, “Paula Ausente”, was inspired by Isabel Allende’s novel and won the SIBL Project International Songwriting Contest; it has been covered by icons such as David Bowie and Tom Waits. Exploring different realms such as children’s songs or social reality, she sensitively approaches grand timeless themes such as love, courage, the wisdom of ancient peoples, or current affairs such as refugee camps. The winner of several international awards, she recently picked up two Latin Grammy Awards for her last two albums “Coloreando” and “Este instante”.
