‘A Media Voz - Heidi Hassan & Patricia Pérez Fernàndez’

Winner of “Best Feature-Length Documentary” at the 2019 IDFA, A Media Voz by Cuban filmmaking duo Heidi Hassan and Patricia Pérez Fernández has won more than a dozen first prizes in international competitions. This intimate and revealing documentary about uprootedness, motherhood, love of cinema, friendship and freedom evokes the journey of these two women from the Cuban diaspora, best friends since childhood, in search of themselves and each other in a foreign country: two halves meeting to form a coherent auto-ethnographic narrative.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the two directors, led by the collective Elles Tournent Dames Draaien.​​​​​​​

Heidi Hassan
Born in Cuba in 1978, Heidi Hassan studied at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión de San Antonio de los Baños de Cuba before emigrating to Switzerland, where she continued her education at the Haute école d'art et design in Geneva. Today, she combines her work as a filmmaker and visual artist with numerous collaborations as a director of photography. Her work has won awards at prestigious international film festivals.

Patricia Pérez Fernández
Patricia Pérez Fernández, born in 1978 in Cuba, studied drama at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana before joining the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión de San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba. In 2003, thanks to a scholarship, she emigrated to Spain to study at the Escuela Superior de Cinema y Audivisuales in Catalonia. She is a member of DOCMA, the Spanish documentary film association, and has made several short fiction and documentary films.
